In Their Own Words
We have been offering statistical workshops for more than a decade, and we are honored to have received strong and enthusiastic feedback from participants in our courses. Here are some example student reviews from our 2016 and 2017 summer workshops:
The written materials are fantastic for review and instruction post-workshop. Instructors’ willingness to answer questions and meet one-on-one is very helpful.
The workshop is an excellent primer to MLM and the lecturers are very engaging.
Highly enlightening and informative and practical.
Now I feel I’m ready to start my project with EMA. I feel more confident with multilevel-analyses.
Packs a lot of information into a short period of time. As an applied researcher, I appreciate the introduction to MLM. Really appreciate the software manuals.
The in-depth coverage, particularly with step-by-step software demonstrations, is wonderful.
The information is presented very well and it is worth the time and money.
This will help me understand the scope of what is possible to allow me to think how I can collect data in the future.
Everything is a strength – balance between lecture/practical, the pace at which the material is delivered, the course material/resources, etc. Really just everything.
Extremely clear instructions lots of great examples, generous time for consulting.
The course was wonderful.
This workshop has undoubtedly prepared me for my dissertation and has helped me develop a skill set that will help me throughout my career.
This workshop was excellent and exceeded all of my expectations. I learned a lot about MLM and obtained resources that will support my continued learning of MLM: Excellent course materials, effective use of examples to highlight complex concepts, great review of information prior to introducing new concepts, breaks were perfectly timed, presenters were humorous!
Thank you for such an amazing workshop! I learned so much and cannot wait to dig into my dissertation data!
I work with EMA data and this workshop’s information will allow me to better understand, conceptualize, and analyze those data. We have stat analysts with our group and this course will allow me to better communicate with them and even run some of my own analyses.
The workshop does a great job of explaining MLM on a conceptual level and provides useful examples to better understand the modeling. The instructors were great at teaching the material and were very open to answering questions.
It is an excellent workshop going from basics to the very complex. It provides more than just an overview but is a substantive and practical workshop. I feel like I can go back home/work and use what I’ve learned. But that I also have an understanding of the concepts, so I’m not just copying computer code.
The concepts and practical applications are hard for me, but in this class I really felt like I’ve had some Eureka moments. It really came together for me. I think that speaks to both of your teaching abilities, the format of the class, and the organization of the materials. I love the dynamic between you two and your teaching styles complement each other well. I had a blast, a really good time, and loved it.
Put stats in terms that “normal” people can understand.
Very helpful and informative. Presenters are well prepared and very knowledgeable.
This was a great training. I learned a ton and really enjoyed it.
This workshop is a comprehensive introduction to multi-level modeling. It’s very accessible for someone who only has a background in linear regression. Dan and Patrick are both excellent and engaging lecturers.
Being confident in my model building and the decision-making process – it’s priceless!
Dan and Patrick make it fun and entertaining and genuinely care you learn/understand.
This workshop strikes a perfect balance between theory and practical applications. I particularly appreciated this as my MLM grad class was several years ago, so this was a refresher and an extension now that I have the data to actually analyze.
Now I feel like I can do SEM.
Worth it! I had no idea what to expect, but the teaching and materials were accessible… I did learn a lot, the notes are so helpful, and the interactions with everyone have all been great.
Great, 10/10, would attend again.
Great teachers, friendly, engaging, obvious wealth of knowledge about subject matter.
This course goes into the details that help understand the underlying mechanics of what the models and estimators are doing. So if something goes wrong, you know where to look for issues.
The slides and the explanations, particularly with the diagrams for visualization of the text, help with grasping the concepts much better.
I love the energy and personal touch Dan and Patrick bring to the lectures.
Combination of math, intuition, and coding is excellent.
For SEM, it’s even better than the “gold standard” training workshop. Run and go for it at all cost.
You guys are great. No wonder you’re at the cutting edge of SEM as evidenced by your literature output.
Patrick and Daniel present the material in a very digestible way and create an open atmosphere for questions and learning but not at the expense of content. An incredible learning experience.
It is an excellent theoretical and practical introduction to SEM. Make sure you sign up for it!
As a graduate student, I have found this workshop invaluable.
The two instructors know their material very well!
A great introduction course that provides very strong theoretical background on the SEM and associated methods.
Great background on the theory and how analyses are done.
Great Job! I greatly enjoyed the workshop.
It’s awesome! Wonderful mix of breadth and depth. Provided a detailed framework as well as strong examples and help with applications.
Very comprehensive, great materials, excellent instructors.
I had some experience with SEM prior to the workshop but felt like I was missing essential background. It was very helpful for me to review the matrix algebra and build on from there. I really liked the progression of the course. It was great to also have the consulting times.
One of the few stats workshops to keep my full attention. Perfect balance of core mathematical concepts, statistical equations, and application. Dan and Patrick make complex topics fun and accessible.
The workshop materials are worth the cost of the workshop!
Mplus/Stata manuals-wow, wow, wow!
Thank you for this invaluable resource.
Very informative, clear explanations and more than adequate course material.
Go to this workshop! It’s intense, fun, and comprehensive. Your brain will be stats mush by the end, and you’ll be a better scientist for it.
Great workshop – material was clearly presented. Nice mixture of theory and application.
This workshop introduced a new way of thinking about how my data can be used to better understand patient outcomes… Excellent material and resources. Excellent delivery of the material. Thanks for a great workshop!
If 2 people can keep you awake for 40 hours of stats in 5 days, it’s Dan and Patrick. Both are incredibly knowledgeable and possess the unique ability to explain complex statistical models in a way that is easily accessible.
Fantastic workshop – well prepared, efficient. So clear that you both have put an incredible amount of work into this series
Highly useful course to gain knowledge and improve your understanding of the materials.
Great course, highly recommend.
This workshop provides clear, understandable, and engaging teaching with wonderful resources for the future. Dan and Patrick are fantastic instructors, and they provide a very comfortable, enjoyable atmosphere for a week-long stats workshop.
This workshop improved my understanding of LSEM theory and technique. I’ll be better able to assist researchers by using these methods as part of my statistical toolbox.
Informative, clear, helpful, enjoyable.
A great balance between concepts and application.
I would say that everything from the exceptional teaching and comprehensive materials to the small details (e.g., the food!) was excellent and very well thought out.
Thank you so much, the workshop exceeded my very high expectations.
As a graduate student, this workshop has been a great tool to get exposed to new statistical techniques/analyses both conceptually and in its application. I feel more confident in being able to formulate new types of questions to ask which I think is invaluable.
It was a great workshop. It was really in depth and informative especially as all of the topics began with a conceptual foundation.
Excellent! Great lectures with resources you can take home.
If they know they will need to use these methods in their research, these workshops should be the top choice.
You are provided with excellent notes to take with you. The material is intricate, but the explanations are the clearest I’ve heard when discussing statistics.
The sections tie together nicely. Mplus code is provided, one-on-one consultation available.
I have taken several workshops (summer ones) I would suggest that this is the best among them. If my colleagues are wanting to do research/or learn one of the topics covered by you, then they should take it.
Excellent instructors, a great opportunity to clarify issues that I was always unsure about, helpful and comprehensive materials that are priceless!
One of the best statistical workshops I’ve ever taken, the first where I would go home and work for additional hours analyzing data or reading the notes for greater understanding of the material.
The instruction was first-rate. It’s no surprise Curran & Bauer are award-winning instructors.
This workshop will enhance my ability to facilitate the research process for other faculty at my university. By expanding and improving the quality of my skills, I can better help faculty and students design their research studies, and test their questions.
This is the best option for training that will effectively prepare you to foray into the method. It greatly expanded my perspective on longitudinal analysis.
Huge amount of knowledge and perspective made available through effective teaching can’t overstate how important that is.
Dan and Patrick are excellent lecturers and conveyed complex models in efficient ways.
I would tell anyone interested in analyzing longitudinal data to take this coruse. It’s well worth a week of intensive states and demystifies SEM for longitudinal data.
Patrick and Dan are extremely knowledgeable, but make the material very accessible to a range of levels/background of quant skill. The materials they provide are extremely clear and valuable in and of themselves.
Very comprehensive workshop on LSEM. Compared to others, the professors know what they are talking about, take time to answer questions, provide useful examples; they help us to understand LSEM
AND apply it, not just one of the two.
Super useful — would highly recommend!
Great experience, highly recommended.
The instructors are excellent and have an incredible understanding of this material – can’t imagine learning this material from anyone else.
The materials were created with such care and attention to detail and will continue to be immensely helpful as I apply this technique.
I learned an immense amount this week and will absolutely return to CBA for additional workshops! Highly recommended.
Extremely talented and knowledgeable instructors!
Excellent materials, slides, and examples from applied analyses.
Great teachers, good pace, good facilities, excellent materials.
Great class! Come hungry (for knowledge and snacks!)
It enriched my methodology “toolbox” and I feel I can do much more with my existing database as well as expanding my future research plans.
This class will be enormously helpful in preparation for my dissertation. There is no class that would provide this!
Great! Great atmosphere, great people, great class.
Very clear, great mix of conceptual background, examples, and software implementation.
I will be a better dissertation committee member because of the learning.
Excellent communication around complicated topics. A great way to accelerate knowledge!
I learned a great deal about the topics, including when, where, why, and how they’re used. The mathematical engines, assumptions, and limitations that inform these models were well explained.
It’s a nice balance between theory and application, which is hard the achieve. The detailed materials are helpful, and I am always impressed by the pictures (plots, graphs, conceptual diagrams, etc.).
Great instructors who really know their stuff, offer a great survey of material, and are really ready to help!
Dan and Doug are obviously experts, but their delivery and ability to communicate and answer questions was incredible (something that is not common among experts). The climate was relaxed and conducive to learning.
A lot of invaluable hands on experience of how to use these techniques to solve substantive research questions.
The written materials and syntax templates are incredibly helpful for applying techniques after the workshop concludes.
I would highly recommend it! I really appreciated the balance between theory and application and that syntax files were provided so that we have them to build off of for our own analyses.
Good experience and very clear — very responsive to questions and mindful of a range of statistical expertise.
Doug and Dan are good presenters and clearly keep up with the latest developments. As a developmental psychologist, I appreciated all the examples presented in class.
Dan and Doug proceed through the material in a comprehensive and logical way that maximizes breadth and depth of learning. The materials will continue to be an invaluable resource long after the workshop.
Doug is very knowledgeable and an entertaining lecturer
It’s a very good introduction and detailed description of network analysis.
Presenter knowledge – Fantastic!!! Style of presentation – Fantastic!!!
Helpful in identifying what things aren’t set, that you need to think about and decide, and I have a better basis now to make those decisions.
Well-designed and informative workshop. Learn basics of network analysis that can be applied to many types of data.
Everything was clearly thought through (printed notes, break times, sticky notes, food, etc). Also a very engaging and knowledgeable instructor.
A big strength is the notes. These materials help me feel positive that I will be able to integrate these methods into my research.
Extremely informative, useful, well-designed and well-structured. The speaker was fantastic. I would highly recommend this or other Curran-Bauer workshops.
The biggest strength of the workshop is providing a theoretical and mathematical background for understanding network analysis.
Doug was great! Very engaging and clear lectures.
